A “Unite the Right” rally is held in Charlottesville, Virginia over a two day period. The rally is organized by a loose coalition of the Ku Klux Klan, white supremacists, and neo-Nazi organizations with the primary focus being to protest the proposed removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The rally results in eleven arrests, the death of one counter-protester who was struck in a vehicle-ramming attack, and the deaths of two state troopers resulting from a helicopter crash.
