United States President Joe Biden signs proclamation establishing the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument. The monument will be located at two sites in Illinois and one site in Mississippi. Emmett Till was a black teenager abducted, tortured, and lynched in 1955 while vacationing in Mississippi. Till was accused of offending a white woman and was subsequently brutalized by two men who were later found not guilty of all charges. Following his death, Mamie Till became an educator and activist in the Civil Rights Movement.
